The Cary Junior High School, part of the Cary School District, serves approximately 700 students in seventh and eighth grade. The school is consistently honored for high achievement, placing in the top half of schools in the state and at the top in McHenry County based on academics. According to the Illinois Standards Assessment Test, 90 percent or more of students here "met" or "exceeded" standards. About 80 percent of students who graduate here will go onto college. Students here begin school at 7:55 am and are dismissed at 1:46 pm. Students who live more than 1.5 miles from the school are provided bus service, and after-school bus service for students who partake in activities is available on Tuesday and Thursday. Students study a core curriculum of math, science, social science and language arts, but also receive instruction in music, physical education and art. Classes are 50 minutes long. Both special education and gifted classes are available.
The school is located on a 80-acre campus which it shares with Deer Path Elementary School. The campus, located on Crystal Lake Road, also houses athletic fields. The school's mission is to"provide an educational environment which fosters independent, life-long learning while encouraging social and emotional growth."
