"Unique boutique" specializes in new, estate and vintage household furniture an decor.
Opening a home decor boutique in downtown Crystal Lake seemed an obvious next step for Jenny and Steve Dalzell. The couple already owned Dalzell Jewelers at 41 N. Williams St., as well as an estate buying business where they purchased used jewelry, coins and precious metals. "When we were working with people buying precious metals, they would ask us if we could also take their other items (like furniture and decor)," Jenny Dalzell said. "At the time, we always had to say no. Fiona's Finds is basically an expansion of that business." To walk into Fiona's, which opened Wednesday at 39 N. If you haven't shopped at your local Jewel-Osco grocery store in a while, be prepared for a new customer service initiative that you may, or may not, appreciate. It's called the "cart-to-car" service, according to couponsinthenews.com, and whether you want the help or not, your bagger is expected to follow you and your cart out to your vehicle. The service is mandatory, though Jewel-Osco denies it has anyting to do with keeping track of shopping carts, according to Coupons in the News. "We understand that this is a very different service and it might take our customers some time to understand that we want this to be the norm," said a Jewel customer service representative in the article. Operator cites a lack of interest led to closure.
Lake in the Hills Street Market is not opening this season due to a lack of interest, an organizer said. “We are not doing it this year,” said Tony Sarillo, of Sarillo Development in Crystal Lake. “It just didn’t have the turn out we hoped.” Sarillo approached the LITH board in 2011 to open the street market, 8601 S. Route 31, on a piece of property owned by developer Ray Plote. There was some opposition from a neighboring business owner who felt it would be “an eyesore.” However, the village board approved a temporary use permit for two years. Sears Holding Corp. is actively seeking tenants to share the 103,867-square- foot Crystal Lake building at 105 Route 14, the Northwest Herald reports. The local Sears store is not closing, merely exercising its standard practice of pursuing subtenants, out-parcel development and alternative uses, the story states. Mid-America Real Estate Corp. has listed for lease Sears locations in Crystal Lake, Bloomindale and six suburban Kmart stores, the Herald reports.

Running Depot in downtown Crystal Lake hosting run/ walk in a tribute to Boston.
Area runners and walkers turned out in full force on Monday to pay tribute to those impacted by the Boston tragedy. An estimated 275 people participated in the "Run as One," three mile run/ walk according to the Running Depot. The Running Depot organized "Run as One," which started near the depot store at 30-H Williams St. in downtown Crystal Lake. Participants were encouraged to wear the blue and yellow Boston colors.
Events planned for grand opening Thursday, April 25 to Sunday, April 28.
The wait is over. Half-Price Books is opening Thursday, April 25 and has many event planned throughout the weekend to commemorate its new store in the Algonquin Commons. Half-Price Books offers new and used books at discount prices. The store also purchases books from the public. The store is located at 2226 South Randall Road.
