10 Candidates to Compete for Miss Cary, Miss Fox River Grove
Miss Cary/ Fox River Grove Business Scholarship Pageant is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Cary-Grove High School in Cary.
Ten young women will compete for the crowns of the 2013 Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove Business Scholarship Pageant this Saturday. The pageant starts at 7 p.m. May 18, at Cary-Grove High School, 2208 Three Oaks Rd., Cary. The winners receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. The scholarship pageant is sponsored by True Value Manufacturing and Wickstrom Auto Group, said Suzanne Corr, executive director of the chamber. “The Chamber is celebrating 50 years of the Miss Cary Pageant this year,” Corr said. “We have had so many amazing young women from our community involved over the years, and each year they benefit from working with female business leaders in the community who serve on the Pageant …

Gas Prices Up in Crystal Lake, Cary
Motorists across Illinois have been paying more at the pumps this week, more than the majority of states, according to AAA. Here are the lowest prices in the Crystal Lake-Cary area.
The majority of states may be experiencing a drop in gas prices, but not Illinois and other parts of the Midwest, according to AAA. Record rainfall that led to flooding and reduced production related to refineries shifting over to "summer-blend" gasoline are part of the reason, reports AAA. There was also an explosion at a Detroit refinery on April 27, though that incident was not expected to contribute to higher prices for motorists. The current average price for regular unleaded in Illinois is $3.95. Last month, the average was $3.84. A year ago the average was $4.02. Breakers Restaurant Re-Opens
Restaurant on Route 14 has been closed since Feb. 2, when a car crashed into the kitchen.
One of Crystal Lake's favorite dinning spots is up and cooking again. The Breakers Restaurant re-opened Friday after three months of repair work. The restaurant, located at 7728 Route 14 on the northwest side of Crystal Lake, closed on Feb. 2, when a car crashed into the building where the kitchen is located. A spokesperson for Breakers said the repairs are completed and the restaurant was scheduled to open at 4 p.m. May 3. The Breakers has been operating since 1949. It has been recognized as one of Illinois' best restaurants and has won several local diner's awards. Its "tiki" bar decor adds to the dining experience. The restaurant is known for its tropical drinks and delicious Chinese food.

They do have very good egg rolls (and other foods), but I sure hope the health dept. looked at their kitchen, bathrooms etc. before giving approval to open. It's been open since 1949, but I don't think the owner was spent a dime on this place after that time. more ›
