For the past week you've read about how most Americans are going to give up smoking for a New Year's Resolution, or go on a diet and start shedding some pounds.
Will you accomplish that goal and crush it, or give up? It's up to you!
I've decided to be one of the many who are going to eat right, exercise and get into shape. That, however, is not my resolution. My resolution has so much more meaning, and I think if it has more meaning it will make me try harder.
My resolution for 2012 is to run in a 5K charity event.
It's an event that happens annually through the Family Health Partnership Clinic to help treat those affected by breast cancer. The money all stays local, and this upcoming fall will be my fourth time at the event.
For the past three years I've made announcements and given out awards. This coming year I plan to run in it. Why? Because it will be a personal goal to honor my late mother.
She fought cancer three times before passing in early 2008. If you want more info on the 5K that Family Health Partnership Clinic puts on click here.
It's emotional to even think about running in this 5K since my mom was so special to me. It will be my motivator to not only get into shape - but STAY in shape! I'm just about three weeks into an "8 Weeks to Wellness" program at Premiere Wellness Chiropractic in Crystal Lake (one of our station's many sponsors), and they are so supportive. The doctors and trainers have been fantastic and know my goals so they can help me to get where I need to be.
I'm not hoping - I KNOW that this fall I will be posting a Patch blog about finishing the Care 4 Breast Cancer 5K at Woodstock North High School with thousands of others raising awareness, funds and honoring those who lost their battle, too.
Find meaning in your resolution and stick with it! Good luck!
