Woman Arrested for Child Endangerment, Operating Illegal Day Care
Sheriff's Office is saying she watched over up to 12 children alone at her residence.
A McHenry County woman was arrested Monday after she allegedly ran an illegal day care at her residence in Woodstock.
Annette T. Zender, 52, of 15704 N. US Rte. 14 in Woodstock was charged with three counts of endangering the life and health of a child after an investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Children and Family Services.
According to the Sheriff's Office, a young child sustained an injury on April 11 while being cared for by Zender. The young child required emergency medical care.
As a result of the investigation, Sheriff's Deputies and DCFS case workers learned that Zender would provide unlicensed child care for up to 12 children under the age of 6 by herself. Investigators also observed three unsecured ponds on Zender’s property along with pieces of large equipment that could pose a danger in the presence of children, according to the Sheriff's Office.
Zender was taken into custody Monday after a warrant was obtained.
Zender's bond was set at $1,000 and she was given a May 17 court date.
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is continuing the investigation.

I understand both sides of this - but feel bad for this woman. These parents have no problem using her for cheap labor - but cry foul if anything goes wrong. This is not a unique situation, non- licensed in home day care is happening all around us. I just hope that the child is ok...for all involved. I'm sure she feels terrible.

Daycare is heck-of-a-expensive!! however i want to say if you have more than 6 kids you are supposed to be licensed.

The law in arkansas is more than 5 kids and you have to be licensed. Twelve kids and 1 adult is completely out of ratio anyhow for children that young unless they were all 4 and above really. I do not feel bad for her, because if she was going to run a child care facility out of her home, she should have done it the correct and safe way. However, shame on the parents also for even putting their children in her care to begin with knowing what was going on. I do not care about the financial part so much as a child's safety. Money cannot replace a child, and there are free programs for child care also. I know of the ABC program for preschool age children in Arkansas as well as our pre school here is free. There are also vouchers people can sign up for to help pay child care fees
