Wind Chill Advisory through Tuesday Morning

Wind chills expected to be 20-25 below zero.

Brrrrrr.

Plunging January temperatures necessitate extra caution when heading outdoors today and especially tonight.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory from 6 p.m. this evening to 10 a.m Tuesday, Jan. 22, for the Chicagoland region including Crystal Lake, Cary and the surrounding McHenry County communities.

Wind chill values predicted to drop to - 20  to - 25 below zero through Tuesday morning.

Very cold air and strong winds will combine to generate dangerous wind chills, according to the National Weather Service.  This leads to a risk for frostbite and hypothermia. Frostbite to exposed skin can occur in 30 minutes.

The National Weather Service advises to wear a hat and gloves if you must venture outdoors. Be sure your car is equipped with the proper emergency supplies including a blanket if traveling long distances overnight.

Please tell all area residents to please bring in any pets normally housed outside to a warmer inside location (even a garage?) if at all possible in this kind of weather! THANKS!

That's good advice. I remember years ago writing a story about a cat whose legs (all 4) were frozen to the ground. It was rescued and survived, thankfully.
