Where is the Best Place to Get a Sub in County?

Let us know which restaurant or sub show is your favorite place to get sub sandwich by commenting below.

It's lunchtime during the work week and you are looking for something quick to fill you up.

You are in the mood for a sub — but where do you turn?

For this week's Chowdown Showdown Challenge, we are asking McHenry County readers to tell us: where is your favorite place is to get a sub sandwich in the county?

Let us know by commenting below. And don't forget to also tell us which sub sandwich you think is the best from that particular sub shop and/or restaurant.

You will be able to submit your vote through 5 p.m. Tuesday. From there, we will take the top finalists and post as a poll in an article first thing Wednesday morning.

Then it will be time to vote again — this time for the Chowdown Showdown champion. Voting will continue through 12 p.m. Friday, and we will announce the winner first thing Saturday morning.

This is all about participation so we hope you will chime in and check back.

So, without further ado, lets get the voting started. Patch readers, tell us by commenting below: where is the BEST place to get a sub sandwich in McHenry County?

The weekly Chowdown Showdown is meant to be a fun and easy way for readers to pick and vote on their favorite places to get certain entrees in McHenry County. Each week, we will ask you to tell us your favorite place to get a bowl of chili or a burger or a stack of pancakes — you can find all of our past champions here

There are several very good sub shops in this area. Jimmy Johns, Mikes, Bubs! We just tried Bubs last night and it was great. The staff is very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

Algonquin Sub Shop, the others are very good but rather ordinary. The creative subs at Algonquin Sub Shops puts them in a whole other category of deliciousness!

Bubs Subs. I used to go to the various sub shops around but never could commit to one because I didn't feel any of them were particularly good enough to stand out from the others. I'd go to Jimmy Johns for the bread, Mike's for the Philly, etc. Since I've tried Bubs, I haven't went to one of these places (not once). When I'm in the mood for a sub I go here, lots of good subs to choose from, clean place. I love the toasted Bada Bing, Three Amigos, Club but most of all the Cheesy Italian Beef (with giardinera on the side-spelling?) Yummy!! By the way, I really appreciate the fresh vegetables too!

These Chowdown Showdown Challenges get nasty, back and forth with one another! Let me just say that those chain sandwich shops shouldn't be involved in these! Kept it to the small and local shops! Best sub...that's a tough one I can think of 3 pretty good places. Bubs Subs is a VERY good shop and so is Galloway's but then there is, to me at least, the King of them all since they have been in the area the longest, Algonquin Sub Shop. With that said though I got to tell you, if you give Bubs some time to grow they will march right up to the top of the Sub world. Final vote I am going to say Bubs. I just hope that the finalist are between local business. Don't forget Dino's Pizza has a mean sub! but lets keep Dino's out until a Pizza or Pasta showdown!

I agree with you completely Dino!! Forget the chains!! Have you ever had a sub from Butcher on the Block? It used to be my favorites right there with A.S.S. its been a little while since I have had them but they were great! I would say I put Butcher on the Block above A.S.S. then Galloways. I need to try a sub from Dinos next time but the Pizza is just too good to pass up on. Remind me to get a sub too next time!!

Tried Bubs Subs for the first time and we all loved it. They had a nice selection of subs. The kids were able to get sandwiches for their size. And the taste was amazing.

Bubs Subs. The price is reasonable considering just about everything is homemade. The variety of sandwiches is great, the vegetables are perfect, and the staff is great.

I vote for Bubs Subs in Algonquin. They are a new place but consistently good every time. I get the Club Bub and the 3 Amigos subs; they're the best. A regular size sub is plenty and hits the spot.
