Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods Pull Some Firearms After Newtown Shooting
The Newtown school shooting has spurred some retailers to suspend gun sales.
Christmas shopping for the outdoorsman may be a little different this year.
Walmart pulled from its shelves a Bushmaster rifle that's in the same group of guns as the one reportedly used by the gunman in the Dec. 14 shootings in Newtown, Conn., according to media reports.
There are Walmart stores in Crystal Lake, Algonquin and Huntley.
It’s unclear if the chain suspended sales of any other sporting rifles. Searches for “modern sporting rifle,” "semi-automatic rifle,” and “bushmaster” displayed guns for sale in stores only. But when checked for availability, all showed as "out of stock."
Patch also left a message with Walmart’s media relations staff, but that message has not been returned.

Dick's Sporting Goods
Dick's Sporting Goods has suspended sales of semi-automatic weapons at its stores following the Newtown shootings, according to a report from CNN.
The chain includes 511 stores in 44 states. Locally, there is a store in Algonquin. The company posted this message to its website:
"We are extremely saddened by the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week in Newtown, Conn., and our hearts go out to the victims and their families, and to the entire community.
Out of respect for the victims and their families, during this time of national mourning we have removed all guns from sale and from display in our store nearest to Newtown and suspended the sale of modern sporting rifles in all of our stores chainwide.
We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to those affected by this terrible tragedy."
A search of the Dick's Sporting Goods website for “semi-automatic rifles” produced a handful of paintball guns, but no lethal weapons. A search for “modern sporting rifles” turned up no results.
It’s unclear how long the suspension will last.
A message with the company's communication's department has not been returned.

Sorry Si, Wasn't meant as a joke. Just very mad about people still seeing nothing wrong with guns---read some of the comments after the story about the letter the 10 yr old had read last nite on CNN. Some people will never learn---Till it happens to them!

Guns are not the problem, people are the problem. The same day that this happened; in China a man took a knife into a school and cut up 20 something kids and teachers. If someone wants to harm others they will even if they have to revert back to sticks and stones.

Your pipe dream of banning guns will never happen. There's no personal responsibility anymore for people that commit the crimes with the guns. Some whacko in CT flips out and its the NRA's fault I bet right? I know you gun haters think these guns get up and move around,load themselves and shoot people all by themselves but I have yet to see it. That would be nice I could get some deer hunting in while watching a bears game. More strict gun laws for semi-autos and high capacity clips,mental health back ground checks thats fine don't need the semi-auto rifles for anything. Yeah the president is coming for our guns thats funny.

Bruce MUST be talking about the Obama administration giving thousands of untraceable weapons to the Mexican drug cartel, which they have used to kill hundreds of Mexican nationals and also a US border agent.

Yes Dan I'm talking about them too! I said every single gun thats manufactured starts out "legal" all 300,000,000 of them. Yet many wind up with bad guys, nuts etc.---how did they get there?? I simply say more guns = more gun violence. If you really care just look at the numbers!
