University News: Local Students Earn Recognition, Study Abroad
A list of area students who earned notable honors for the fall 2013 semester.
Students from Crystal Lake and Cary received awards, recognition, graduate degrees and other special accolades for fall 2012 and spring 2013.
Laura Kathrein, of Cary, Graduates from Ithaca College
ITHACA, NY -- Laura Kathrein, daughter of John Kathrein and Diane Kathrein of Cary, graduated with a major in Outdoor Adventure Leadership from Ithaca College's School of Health Sciences and Human Performance. The degree was awarded in December 2012.
Brianne Fenton, of Crystal Lake, Awarded Scholarship
FAYETTE, Iowa -- Upper Iowa University recently released its Presidential and Trustee Scholarship winners for 2012-2013.
Upper Iowa is pleased to announce, Brianne Fenton of Crystal Lake, was the recipient of a Trustee Scholarship in the amount of $17,000.
Christina Bear, of Cary, Studies in Greece
LAKE FOREST-- Lake Forest College student Christina Bear , a junior from Cary, will spend the spring 2013 semester studying off-campus in Greece with Lake Forest College faculty.
The program in Greece offers an in-depth introduction to the rich legacy of ancient cultures in the Aegean world. Our students will go on explorations in art and archaeology, taking them from Minoan palaces and Classical temples to Byzantine churches and Medieval fortresses.
Bear is a graduate of Cary Grove High School in Cary.
Local Students maked Dean's List at Villanova University
VILLANOVA, Penn.-- Villanova University named the following students to the Dean's List for the fall 2012 semester.
Lauren Keogh, from Crystal Lake, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Villanova School of Business.
Luke Waggoner, from Village of Lakewood, is pursuing a bachelor's degree in the Villanova School of Business.
Rebecca Watson, from Crystal Lake, is studying English in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Villanova University Dean's List recipients are honored by their college's respective dean. To qualify, one must be a matriculated full-time student and earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.The College of Nursing requires students to earn at least a 3.5 for the academic year.
Cody May, of Crystal Lake, Studying in Spain
GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Cody May, a Denison University student from Crystal Lake, is studying off-campus for the spring 2013 semester. May, a member of the class of 2014, is studying with the College of Global Studies Program in Spain.
