Run the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, and later you can eat anything you want for dinner (that's what runners always say!).
The annual Turkey Trot kicks off at 8 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at Lippold Park, on Route 176 about one-half mile west of Route 14, in Crystal Lake. The Thanksgiving Day race is held rain, snow, sleet or shine, according to race organizers.
The Thanksgiving Day weather is predicted to be warm and inviting as runners enjoy a flat 5K (3.1 miles), crushed limestone certified course with markers every one-half mile.
In lieu a race entry fee, participants are asked to bring voluntary non-perishable food items or monetary donations to be donated to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry. All check donations should be made to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry.
Last year, Turkey Trot participants donated $3,242 and collected 10,437 pounds of food donated in 2011, according to Turkey Trot organizers.
Runners and walkers can register for the Turkey Trot from noon to 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at The Running Depot, 30 N. Williams St., and from 6 to 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 22, at Lippold Park.
