A suicidal call to the Crystal Lake Metra train station Feb. 6 resulted in a arrest of a burglary suspect.

Crystal Lake Police responded to three business burglaries Jan. 29 in the downtown area. Trax Coffee Shop, Dawn’s Bread Shop and The Running Depot had been entered by force during the early morning hours, reporting undisclosed amounts of cash taken, according to police.

Video surveillance from the downtown business district gathered by police captured images of a suspect near one of the businesses around the time of the break-in.

Later that same evening police got a call of a suicidal suspect near the Metra commuter train depot on Woodstock Street. According to police, the troubled individual appeared to match the description of the suspect in the surveillance video.

The subject, Joshua J. Barranco, 32, of South Wesley Ave. in Berwyn was transported to Woodstock’s Centegra Hospital for an evaluation.

Police were later able to determine that Barranco was responsible for the burglary to the Trax Coffee Shop. Warrants were obtained for one count of burglary, one count of theft and two counts of criminal damage to property, according to police.

Barranco was arrested immediately upon his release from the hospital and transported to the McHenry County Jail, with bond set at $60,000.

Police were able to gather additional evidence against Barranco for his involvement with the two other downtown burglaries — Dawn’s Bread Shop and The Running Depot — and charged him Feb. 10 with two additional counts of burglary, three counts of criminal damage to property and two counts of theft.

He was served at the McHenry County Jail with another bond set at $50,000.

The case was continued to Feb. 14.
