Student Arrested for Camera Found in Locker Room at Crystal Lake Central High School
Luke P. Gildea, 17, of Crystal Lake, was arrested Thursday and charged with unauthorized video recording.
Crystal Lake Police have made an arrest in the case of a pin-hole camera found Thursday in the boys' athletic locker room at Crystal Lake Central High School.
Luke P. Gildea, 17, of Crystal Lake, has been charged with two counts of unauthorized video recording.
One count is a class 4 felony, and the second is a class 3 felony involving a victim under 18 years old, Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior stated in a press release issued late Thursday night.
Gildea is a student at the school, which is located at 45 W. Franklin St.
Gildea was expected to be transported to the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock, where his bond hearing is set for 8 a.m. Friday at the McHenry County Courthouse.
"The department continues to work closely with School District 155 investigating this incident," Dziewior said. "Additional charges may be forthcoming."
On Thursday afternoon, District 155 Superintendent Johnnie Thomas issued an automated email statement to parents explaining the camera device had been found by another student in the locker room.
The pin-hole camera is a stand-alone device, which does not possess the capability of main streaming video to a wireless system, according to police.
Police will use a forensic examiner to review any digital images.
Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Crystal Lake Police Department at 815-356-3620.

Does anyone know where the camera lens was directed and what is what filming and also, excuse my ignorance but, what is a "pin-hole camera is a stand-alone device" and how could another student find it and how did they know whose it was? Not that anyone will know the hows & whys of the investigation, just wondering.

According to Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior:
Luke P. Gildea was charged as an adult with a felony offense (thereby allowing us to print his name). The approval for the felony was obtained through the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Also: I uploaded a photograph of a pin-hole camera. The camera is so small it can easily be hidden anywhere. It is not capable of providing live feed, but the images can be saved and transferred to other devices.

Silly boy--only the governemnt can spy. But wait...if the camera had caught a crime being committed, that would be interesting. Not long ago something similar happened in California I think, caught a crime, but because the camera was unauthrized the criminal got off.

Guys he is a 17 year old boy. They often do dumb things without thinking and certainly never expect to be caught. He has no previous behavioral problems. Said to be a decent kid. A stupid decision yes. How many stupid things did you do at 17. A kid with no previous problems deserves a second chance - don't tell me if it were you or your child - you wouldn't want the same. This is not just local news folks. Destroy a kid who may have amounted to something. Not only does this effect his future, he has family - siblings in the community. Consider those who are also facing this who have done nothing. Be very careful before you start with the patenting...karma. People are doing far worse and do not get half the press. Maybe nailing him to the cross before all the facts are presented isn't the right way to go about this. Is the act wrong? No question about it - yes. However, two wrongs don't make a right.

I. Agree this camera was pointed at the shower room entrance. This guy should be treated as a pedifile. I am sure a money trace will show he was being paid for the pictures or video's and the parents of whoever was in the pictures should be notified.
