Several Guns Taken in Burglary

Several guns were stolen from a home in the 200 block of N. Lincoln Lane during a residential burglary Saturday, Dec. 23.

According to the Arlington Heights Police Department, the unknown offender or offenders forced open a first floor bedroom window and entered the house while the homeowner was out walking their dog.

Five handguns were stolen from the basement of the home and a 55-inch Sony television was taken from the living room during the residential burglary, police said.

Northbrook

Edward Niewiaroski, 80, of Elmwood Park, died in a car accident on the 3500 block of Techny Rd. in Northbrook on Tuesday, the Elm Leaves reports. 

Niewiaroski was transported to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, according to the Elm Leaves, where he was pronounced dead at 4:49 p.m.

An elderly woman was in the car with Edward Niewiaroski when his vehicle struck a utility pole on Techny Rd., according to the Northbrook Fire Department Division Chief, Tim Cassidy. She was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Teenagers Arrested In Armed Robbery at High School

Two teens were arrested last week in connection with an armed robbery that occurred outside Dundee-Crown High School on Dec. 18. 

The Carpentersville Police Department arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old, both from Carpentersville, according to a District 300 press release. Both were charged with armed robbery and attempted vehicle theft.

In the incident, a student who was robbed at gunpoint in the school's parking lot during a girl's basketball game.

Homeless Man Found Dead

The body of Luis M. Escalante, 53, was found underneath a bridge at the northeast corner of Oakton Street and McCormick Boulevard just two days before Christmas Eve.

An officer found Escalante while on patrol. According to the report, Escalante’s leg was hanging from a steel support beam. When police approached the body, it was clear that Escalante had been deceased for some time.

According to the police, various parts of the body had decomposed. An autopsy by the medical examiner’s office concluded that Escalante died from cold weather exposure.
