Morton Grove

Man Killed Crossing Tracks To Greet Fiancee

Danny You, 38, was crossing the train tracks in Morton Grove at about 6 p.m. Tuesday to meet his fiancee on the other side, said Michael Slattery of Skokie, who identified himself as You's roommate, friend and co-worker at a Morton Grove moving company.

"He was on top of the world, because [You was] supposed to get married Wednesday (the following day)," Slattery said. "He had it all set. They were going to get married at the courthouse."

The fiancee and Slattery witnessed the entire accident, Slattery said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death an accident, a spokesperson said Thursday.

Barrington

Firefighter Hospitalized In Hazmat Situation

A firefighter was transported to the hospital while investigating a report of a gas-like smell at a Barrington home.

Fire officials from multiple agencies were called to a home on the 25000 block of Cuba Road this morning after the smell of gas was reported around 7 a.m. 

Barrington Fire Department arrived on the scene and found a box that smelled of gas in the garage. A firefighter was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital due to medical symptoms experienced on the scene.

Marengo

Police Take On Wild Marijuana Plants

McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies seized 656 marijuana plants from a field in unincorporated Marengo this week in what is described as a wild cannabis grow, authorities said.

A property owner in the 20000 block of Anthony Road discovered the plants on July 16 and contacted the sheriff’s office, according to a release. Deputies responded and determined it was a wild cannabis grow and not the result of an organized cultivation, the release stated.

Antioch

One Dead, Two Injured Following Robbery, Police Chase

One person is dead, two others critically injured after a gas station robbery turned police chase July 15 in Antioch.

The Antioch Police Department said three suspects entered the Bernie's Marathon Gas Station at 830 Main Street in Antioch around 9:20 p.m. Sunday armed with a silver semi-automatic pistol.

Police say the suspects pepper sprayed the clerk while holding her at gun point and demanded money. The suspects obtained an undisclosed amount of cash and sped away in a a silver Chevy Sedan, headed south on Route 83 where they were pursued by police.

Lake Forest

Drowning Victim Identified

The 44-year-old Lake Forest woman pulled from Lake Michigan July 15 following a seven-hour search has been identified as Victoria Kut.

Earlier: Updated: Lake Forest Woman's Identity Withheld To Contact Family

Kut, a resident in the 1200 block of Windwood Drive, drowned in Lake Michigan, according to Lake County Coroner Artis Yancy. Kut was reported missing at 3 a.m. July 15 by her husband, who called Lake Forest Police after discovering she was not at home. At 10:15 a.m., a U.S. Coast Guard Helicopter spotted her body floating about two miles east of Forest Park Beach.

Arlington Heights

Woman Faces DUI, Battery and Felony Criminal Damage Charges

The Arlington Heights Police arrested a 28-year-old Gurnee woman at 903 East Algonquin Road at 3 a.m. Sunday, July 15 on charges of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, failure to signal, misdemeanor and felony criminal damage to government property

As Samerly was handcuffed in the backseat of the patrol car, she became irate, screamed at the officer and kicked the rear driver side window out. Samerly's anger continued as she taken into lock-up at the station, as she hit an officer in the face, while they were trying to get her to sit down. The officer was not hurt.
