Pingree Road Slated to Re-Open Friday!

A summer-long construction project nears its end, and section of Pingree Road north of Congress Parkway is expected to open mid-morning on Friday, Oct. 5.

The City of Crystal Lake is on schedule to officially re-open Pingree Road on Friday, October 5, 2012, around mid-day.

Pingree Road near Congress Parkway has been closed since the beginning of May. The closure has been a huge inconvenience for residents living north of the Metra railroad tracks near Pingree Road. It also has detoured drivers trying to travel between Route 14 and Crystal Lake Avenue.

The construction project was completed ahead of schedule due to the dry summer conditions, and lack of rain, city officials said.

"The city appreciates the patience and cooperation of our residents and area business owners during the road closure, which was completed ahead of schedule," the city webpage states.

The construction improvements provide a modernized traffic signal at the Pingree and Congress Parkway intersection, and drivers will be able travel more efficiently and safely with the additional lanes.

Pedestrians are also able to enjoy new sidewalks along the west side of Pingree across the railroad tracks, connecting existing paths between Route 14 and the residential neighborhoods to the north.

This $1.5 million project was the result of a partnership between Metra and the City of Crystal Lake, which received a federal grant. More information on the project is available on the Pingree Road Construction information page.
