Patch Flash: Pocket Dial Leads Police to 29 Pot Plants
Chicagoland news to talk about: Late director John Hughes' mansion for sale in Lake Forest.
For one Palos Hills man, it was not his lucky day when an accidental pocket dial lead Palos Hills police to his home filled with 29 marijuana plants. A 911 dispatcher received a call on Saturday, Nov. 12 at about 11 a.m. and heard nothing but muffled noises. Police were able to trace the call to a home on the 10200 block of 82nd Avenue in Palos Hills.
Police were sent to the home and let inside. Once inside, officers saw several marijuana plants growing inside an open closet in plain sight, said Deputy Chief James Boie. Paul Gudelj, 39, was charged with felony possession of marijuana, felony production of cannabis plants and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"He had his phone in his pocket and his pants were tight," Boie said. "Dialing 911 was a complete accident."
A woman was arrested Monday after she sprayed a Metra conductor in the face with mace at the College Avenue train depot in Wheaton. The woman refused to show a conductor her ticket after she stepped off the eastbound Metra commuter train at College Avenue. When a second conductor requested to see the ticket, she pulled the can of mace out of her purse and sprayed him in the face, according to a press release from the Wheaton Police Department.
Supporters of the Occupy Wall Street movement plan to protest U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger's (R-11) fundraiser breakfast that is headlined by former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Tuesday morning in Bolingbrook. The fundraiser has drawn the ire of Stand Up! Joliet. "Rep. Kinzinger consistently refuses to meet with his unemployed constituents, and fails to support desperately needed job creation in his current district, focusing instead on raising money from corporate executives and power brokers in his campaign for a new district, saying he will run for re-election either in the 16th congressional district or the redrawn 11th depending on map redistricting," a Stand Up! Joliet release said.
St. Peter Church and School in Geneva went on lockdown, Monday, due to a bomb threat. Geneva police are searching for a middle-aged white male who threatened to "blow up" St. Peter School if it wasn't evacuated Monday afternoon.

Forty students from the Oakton chapter of Habitat for Humanity set up 18 shanties at the front door of Oakton Community College last week to get a first hand idea on what being homeless is all about. Thursday’s cold temperatures and biting winds brought a bitter sense of realism to the estimated 730,000 people who are homeless each night across America.

hmm..interesting that there is no mention of the waitress who got fired from the Outback in Crystal Lake last week for wearing a 'Don't Tread on Me' bracelet because a couple complained to the manager that it was "offensive"...and the manager fired her.
Nor any mention of the protest outside the Outback that followed on Saturday.
It's good that we don't have to depend on the Patch for local news...these stories are covered in other newspapers.
but hey, who has the best pancakes in McHenry County?! who has the best sub sandwiches?? the best food polls?

The waitress story has been picked up by Drudge....and it isn't the Patch version.

Fascinating observation, Matt. Another great observation is your ability to comment more than any other reader, all while criticizing either another reader or Patch. If other newspapers are doing such a bang-up job, go there and let the rest of us enjoy this website.
