MTV Picks '10 Best Songs' of 2012

Who would know better than MTV when it comes to picking the year's top songs?

Every music genre has its own list of top songs for 2012. There are lists for pop, rock, alternative, country, R&B, jazz and more. But, what were the best songs of the past year for people who listen to mainstream music?

MTV has released its list of 10 picks for the top songs of 2012. To compile the final selection, MTV asked its staffers to submit their choices for their favorite song of the year, according to the MTV website. From the results, an MTV panel of experts in the "biz" whittled the results down to 10.

When all was said and done, top honors for the year went to Canadian sensation Carly Rae Jepsen, whose song "Call Me Maybe" shot to the top of the charts when everyone from her friend (and fellow Canadian) Justin Bieber and Harvard University baseball players recorded lip-dub videos of the song.
