McHenry Man Jumps in River to Flee Police
Seth A. Stittgen, 30, was wanted on several outstanding arrest warrants from Walworth County, Wis., Lake County and Fox Lake, Ill.
McHenry County Sheriff deputies received information that Seth A. Stittgen was at a house in McHenry.
Stittgen, 30, with a last known address of 1315 Oeffling Dr., McHenry, was wanted on several warrants from Walworth County, Wis., Lake County and Fox Lake. Stittgen has an extensive criminal history, Sheriff Keith Nyrgren said.
At 6:41 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, members of the McHenry County Sheriff's Office, assisted by officers from Johnsburg and McHenry police departments, attempted to serve Stittgen an arrest warrant at a residence at 1904 N. Orchard Beach Rd., McHenry.
Upon arriving at the home, officers observed Stittgen running from the backyard toward the Fox River. At that point, Stittgen jumped in the river in attempt to flee police, Nygren said in a press release.
Deputies observed Stittgen trying to swim across the river.
A nearby resident offered officers the use of a boat. This allowed deputies to get Stittgen safely out of the water and take him into custody.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene and evaluated Stittgen. Stittgen did not seek further medical assistance and was transported to McHenry County Correctional Facility.
Once back on land, Stittgen was hit with an additional charge: one count of resisting a peace officer. Bond was set at $1,500. Stittgen is scheduled to appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 21.
