UPDATE: Pedestrian Killed By Metra Train was Prairie Grove Man
McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz said Saturday accident appears to be a suicide.

The man hit and killed by a Metra train near Sands Road in Crystal Lake on Saturday was a 61-year-old Prairie Grove resident, according to McHenry County Coroner Marlene Lantz.
The westbound Metra train struck the man at about 3:17 p.m. Oct. 20, east of Metra's Pingree Road train station. The death has been deemed a suicide, Lantz said.
No further information was released.

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Metra train at 3:20 p.m. near the Pingree Road station, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Train No. 709 was scheduled to arrive at 2:55 p.m., the newspaper reported. The train was nearing the end of its run when the pedestrian was struck and killed, the Tribune reported.
Metra's website stated that the incident delayed train 715 which was bound for Harvard. Chicago inbound train 720 also was delayed about an hour.
Correction: An eariler version of this post stated that the pedestrian was a man, but the gender of the person struck has not been released.

People feel for the family's lost. Has anyone thought of the engineer that couldn't stop an trying too. The flash backs in his head over an over again. The engineer will never be the same or his family too.

I was a passenger on the train. We were stopped for 5 minutes until the ambulance and 5 squad cars showed up. We were then told that we would be stopped indefinitely. After 5 more minutes they opened all the doors and allowed us to abandon the train. I saw the pedestrian who was struck by the train, but they were covered up by a body bag so I couldn't see the gender. It was a very unfourtunate event...

I was on train stuck in Palatine out bound for over an hour and a half because of this, feel bad for victims family. Couldn't help but think of them, while we waited to get moving again.

my prayers go out to the family and to the train driver.something needs to be done to stop people from going on the tracks.cause there has been alot of killings on this train line latley.
