Low Water Moves Fishing Derby to West Beach
Free fishing event to include demonstrations and prizes.
This weekend's Family Fishing Derby has been moved to West Beach.
According to the Crystal Lake Park District, the annual event was moved from Veteran Acres Pond due to low water levels.
The derby will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at West Beach, 2330 Lave Ave. in Crystal Lake.
Admission to the Family Fishing Derby is free, but participants are being asked to register in advance. Those interested can register by clicking here (use program code #9602-1).
Beginning anglers of all ages can enjoy a morning of fishing where the Crystal Lake Anglers and Nature Center staff will provide a quick fishing lesson to those in need. Participants must be willing to touch worms or be accompanied by someone who will.
Fishing poles, tackle, bait and prizes will be provided. Anyone over the age of 16 must have a current Illinois Fishing License.
For more information, call The Nature Center at (815) 455-1763
The derby will be held rain or shine, so participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.
