Planning a picnic, or looking for someplace fun to go on Labor Day?

Here's a list of what's opened, and what's closed for the weekend and Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 3, 2012. in Crystal Lake and Cary.

Three Oaks Recreation Area, 5517 Route 14, Crystal Lake

Beach area is open. Boat rentals available, plenty of room for picnics and fishing. 

Beach area will be staff based on lifeguard availability from 10 a.m. to noon in the shallow area, and from noon to 6:30 p.m. full swimming area on Labor Day weekend.

Thinking of renting a boat? Save time by downloading and printing the boat rental form ahead of time. Fill the form out at home, and bring it with you to the marina.

Canoe and kayak lessons available. Stand-up paddleboarding lessons and rentals are available every Saturday and Sunday morning. Park closes at sunset.

Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., Crystal Lake

Main Beach is open for swimming; however, water samples taken Wednesday by the McHenry County Department Health showed elevated levels bacteria. The beach area was placed on an advisory status. Typically, the MCDH re-samples the water, but since it is the end of the summer swimming season, the water has not be re-tested. 

Lake Park is open for barbecues, picnics, boat rentals and Regatta playground is open as well. 

West Beach, 2330 Lake Ave., Lakewood

Beach is closed. The old bath house has been razed and construction is ongoing near the beach area.

There is some picnic space available near the playground equipment to the west of the beach area, and a temporary entrance gate has been installed. 

Cary Community Pool, 255 Briargate Rd., Cary

The Cary Community Pool will be open from 12 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Sept. 1 to 3. The pool closes for the season at 6 p.m. Monday.
