Free Health Care Clinic To Help Those in Need
Immanuel Lutheran Church will provide free medical, professional services to through "The Clinic."
As the economy and family budgets get tighter, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake is upping its generosity.
Through an event called The Clinic, the church will reach out to community members by providing free professional assistance to anyone who needs it.
The Clinic, which is being hosted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, will give visitors a chance to see doctors, dentists, optometrists, audiologists, hair stylists and more at no cost. The mobile food pantry, Loaves and Fishes, also will hand out boxes of food for participants to take home at the end of their visit, and the Blessing Barn will have a clothing giveaway.
An expo will showcase free community services, such as Turning Point of McHenry County for abused women and children.
The Clinic is open to anyone who cannot afford theses services, no questions asked.
“Anyone is eligible. There is no restriction as far as income or where you live,” said Bob Dorn, director of outreach. “We want to help people and illustrate we have compassion for people in need. We want to meet physical needs and spiritual needs.”
All of the services will take place in the Immanuel Lutheran School, located on church property. Upon arrival, visitors will be assigned an advocate to help them get around and make sure they are taken care of.
Immanuel Lutheran expects between 350 and 400 people to take part in the clinic, and 240 volunteers, mostly from the church, will help throughout the day.
While Dorn hopes people’s interest in the church community will be sparked, he said the organization’s main goal is just to help those around them.
“We would love to have people come and be a part of our community, but it’s more important that we help meet their needs,” he said. “Most of the folks who come here (typically) would not walk in our front door. We want to touch folks we normally can’t reach.”
Immanuel Lutheran Church and School is at 300 S. Pathway Court, Crystal Lake. For more information about the church or The Clinic, visit www.imcl.org.
