Garden Prairie Man Killed in Early Morning Car Crash
Stephan A. Ford, 63, was killed Friday morning when an elderly driver crossed the center line and collided with his car near Marengo, McHenry County Sheriff's police said.
A 63-year-old Garden Prairie man was killed early Friday morning, Jan. 4, as the result of a car collision on U.S. Route 20 near Marengo.
Stephan A. Ford, 63, was killed when his 1998 Honda sedan was struck at about 6:02 a.m. by 2012 Lincoln MKZ sedan that crossed the center line in the 22900 block of U.S. Route 20, according to McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren.
The driver of the Lincoln, 86-year-old Roderick Mann, of Lincolnshire, was taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock by the Marengo Fire Protection District and treated for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, Nygren said in a press release.
The crash occured east of Johnson Road in unincorporated Marengo Township.
Preliminary investigation indicates Mann was traveling westbound on Route 20 when his car entered the eastbound lane of Route 20 where it struck Ford's Honda sedan head on, Nygren said in the release.
Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene, Nygren said.
Air bags deployed in the Lincoln, and Mann was wearing his safety belt. Ford was not wearing his seat belt, and the Honda did not have airbags, Nygren said in the release.
The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Investigation Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
