An elderly Lake Barrington man is dead following a fire in his town home Tuesday morning.

The man has been identified as Michael Ostrinsky, 75, said Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Orlando Portillo. The fire started inside Ostrinsky's town home at 612 Shoreline Road in Lake Barrington at 8:50 a.m. Tuesday.

"He did not die from the flames; he was overtaken by smoke inhalation," Portillo said.

The first arriving firefighters found smoke showing from a two-story, four-unit townhome. Bystanders said one of the occupants was trapped in the unit that was on fire, according to a Wauconda Fire Department press release.

Firefighters forced entry into the residence and within minutes, found Ostrinsky and was able to get him out of the home, according to the news release. He was transported to Good Shepherd Hospital in Lake Barrington where he was pronounced dead.

There were working smoke detectors in the residence at the time of the fire.

Fire departments responding to the blaze include Wauconda, Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Nunda, Countryside, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Fox River Grove, and Round Lake. Grayslake and Lake Villa.
