Discover Nature With McHenry County Conservation District

Nature photography exhibit is ongoing and documentary on toxic chemicals planned.

 

 

Illinois Nature Preserves Photography Exhibit

McHenry County Conservation District Nature is currently exhibiting Nature Preserve and Land & Water Reserves: An enduring Vision — Illinois Nature Preserves Photography Exhibit  It will be on display through Oct. 30 at Lost Valley Visitor Center, Glacial Park, Rt. 31 and Harts Rd., Ringwood. This exhibit is free and open to the public daily, 8 a.m. to  6 p.m.

 

The Illinois Nature Preserves Commission's traveling photo exhibit Illinois Nature Preserves and Land and Water Reserves commemorates 500 protected sites. Twenty-two exceptional photographs are on display and were selected from a slate of 225 photos submitted for the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ 2009 Outdoor Illinois Photo Contest. All of the entries represented Illinois’ extraordinary geographic range of biodiversity. Sustainability 101: Chemerical the Movie

Thursday, August 4 from 7–9:30 p.m. at at Lost Valley Visitor Center –Glacial Park, Rt. 31 and Harts Rd., Ringwood. Watch a documentary about the prevalence of chemicals in our lives. In this somewhat humorous perspective, one family attempts to remove all toxic chemicals from their lives. There will be refreshments and a discussion afterwards. FREE. Adults 14 years and older. Pre-registration by July29 is required.

 

Family Adventure Hike

Sunday, August 7 from 1–2:30 p.m. at Coral Woods Conservation Area, 7400 Somerset, Marengo. Get the children out of the house and create adventure exploring the natural marvels of McHenry County. Staff will be available to provide suggestions, answer questions, and furnish supplies such as binoculars, field guides or magnifiers that will help you and your family create your own exploration experience. FREE. For adults and families. Pre-registration by August 1 is required.
