A small mishap by McHenry County Sheriff's Deputies resulted in a major drug bust.

Lucas C. Declercq was pulled over May 5 while driving his 2006 Chrysler and let  off with a warning for having an expired registration. But that's when things went south for the Woodstock resident. Deputies forgot to hand Declerq's driver's license back to him so on May 8 they stopped by his house to return it.

"Deputies were just returning his driver's license when they were hit with the odor of marijuana when the door opened," McHenry County Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said.

Deputies discovered an indoor cannabis sativa grow operation, including 47 cannabis sativa plants growing in a basement closet and two storage rooms in the garage, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Deputies also seized lights, ballasts and other equipment used in the production of cannabis sativa plants. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is believed to be $47,000.

Lucas C. Declercq, 33, of 1012 Castleshire Drive in Woodstock was charged May 8 with unlawful manufacturing of cannabis (Class 2 Felony), unlawful possession of cannabis (Class 3 Felony) and unlawful manufacturing of cannabis sativa plants (Class 3 Felony) after deputies discovered cannabis plants in his residence.

Declercq's bond was set at $20,000 and he was given a May 16 court date.
