Crystal Lake Police, State Police to Conduct Roadside Safety Checkpoint
Safety checkpoint will be set up Friday night, March 1.
The Crystal Lake Police Department has announced plans to conduct a joint roadside safety checkpoint in conjunction with the Illinois State Police District 2 during the evening hours on Friday.
Police officers working the checkpoint detail will be watching for drivers who are driving under the influence, transporting open alcoholic beverages, operating unsafe vehicles and driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, according to Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior.
"Alcohol and drug impairment remains a significant factor in over 40 percent of all fatal motor vehicle crashes in Illinois," Dziewior said in a press release. "Safety checks are designed to keep our roads safe by taking dangerous DUI offenders off the road."
