Crystal Lake Removes Decorative Street Lights as Precaution

Contractors hired by Crystal Lake on Wednesday removed some decorative light fixtures on Route 14 as a precaution

Crystal Lake residents traveling along Route 14 may have noticed workers removing decorative lighting fixtures on Wednesday.

During a routine inspection of the city's lighting infrastructure, city officials noticed "an issue with the performance of the hardware."

"Due to the severe winter storm that is predicted for Feb. 7, combined with the results of the lighting inspection, the city is taking an abundance of precaution and temporarily removing the street light arms and fixtures," a statement from the city reads.

Crystal Lake staff is working with the manufacturer to ensure that the equipment provided is reliable and safe under various weather conditions.

The street lights will be replaced on the Virginia Street Corridor as soon as possible, the statement reads.

Residents with questions can  have contact the Engineering and Building Department at 815-356-3605 or via email at Engineering@CrystalLake.org.

Traffic was an absolute ####ing mess during PEAK hours due to this. More importantly, however: Someone should honestly lose their job over the planning of this project. Absolutely unacceptable waste. Will there be any repercussions?

Didn't anybody think about weather conditions before purchasing these? Duh.

I think they found an "issue with the hardware" (that will be replaced) and were concerned the heavy snow would impact the light fixtures
