Cary Woman Gets Four-Year Jail Sentence for Embezzling From Employer

Clarissa Schauer stole more than $185,000 from World Trans International in Algonquin.

The Cary woman convicted of embezzling $185,741 from World Trans International in Algonquin will serve four years jailtime in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Clarissa Schauer, 40, was sentenced Tuesday to serve the four-year prison term for the class 1 felony theft offense, according to a press release issued by McHenry County State's Attorney Louis A. Bianchi.

Authorities say Schauer took the money between December 12, 2005, and September 17, 2009, from World Trans International. As an employee of the company, Schauer was responsible for dispersing checks to vendors of the company, the press release stated.

Over nearly the four year period, Shauer issued numerous checks to herself instead of the vendors, the press release said.

As part of her sentence, Schauer also was ordered to repay the full amount in restitution to the company. She was only able to produce a small portion of the funds prior to her sentencing, the release stated.

The theft case was investigated by the Algonquin Police Department.
