Cary Police Host Community Bike Safety Day

Bring the kids out to test their biking skills, knowledge and equipment.

Responding to residents' requests, the Cary Police Department has planned a Community Bike Safety Day for Saturday.

Officer Kathy Eiring said residents asked for such an event, and the department responded. The Community Bike Safety Day gets rolling from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, at St. Peter and Paul School, 416 N. First St., Cary.

"We're going to have a bike rodeo, and set up an obstacle course," Eiring said. "This is really aimed at children age four to 12."

The course includes a small safety town, and volunteers will distribute Rules of the Road handbooks, she said.

Representatives from Crystal Lake Ski and Bike, 904 Pyott Rd., Crystal Lake, will check bicycles for maintenance needs. They will inspect tires and brakes for safety.

"We are going to have bike checks, helmet checks, and passing out goody bags," Eiring said. "We're hoping to get families out to bike."
