Cary Day Care provider Alvin D. Santiago, 31, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery to a child, according to the Cary Police Department. 

Santiago, of the 300 block of Ann Street, was charged following a six-week investigation by the Cary Police Department and the Department of Children and Family Services.

The case involves injuries against a three-month-old baby that occurred on Sept. 17, Cary Police said in a press release.

Authorities were called to Santiago's home that day for a report of a baby who was unconscious and not breathing. Santiago was a home daycare provider and responsible for the child when the incident took police, police said. 

It was determined the baby suffered significant head trauma consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome, police said. The child was transported to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for more intensive care.

Aggravated battery to a chld is a Class X Felony, police said.
