4 Men Arrested for Breaking into Crystal Lake House, Beating Homeowner

Crystal Lake Police arrested two Crystal Lake and two Woodstock men relating to a Feb. 6 home invasion in the 0 to 100 block of East Terra Cotta Avenue.

Crystal Lake Police have arrested four men relating to a home invasion last week in the 0 to 100 block of Terra Cotta Avenue.

On Feb. 6, police responded to reports of a home invasion in progress. The four men had forced their way into the house, battered the resident, removed items from inside the house and ran away on foot.

Responding officers chased the men, and two were quickly apprehended in the area, according to Crystal Lake Police Cmmdr. Dan Dziewior. The other two invaders eluded capture, Dziewior said.

Police eventually determined their and issued arrest warrants for them. As of Feb. 14, all four men had been arrested and charged.

Arrested were:

Philip J. Dawson, 26, of Crystal Lake

Ryan M. Johnson, 22, of Crystal Lake

William J. Kindall, 21, of Woodstock

Jonathan M. Kindall, 20, of Woodstock

Each of the men were charged with:

  • Battery (Class A misdemeanor)
  • Residential Burglary (Class 1 Felony)
  • Robbery (Class 2 Felony)
  • Mob Action (Class 4 Felony)

William J. Kindall was also charged with possession of cannabis, a Class 4 felony, in addition to the above charges, Dziewior said.

As of Friday, all four men remained in custody at the McHenry County Jail in Woodstock. Bonds were set at $80,000 for each of the men, Dziewior said.

Fortunately, they young men are not experts and do not have a genius for crime... William, if you ever do something stupid like robbing a house again, do not double down on stupid by getting busted with a sack of buds. Yes, you guys were probably planning on smoking a victory fatty after you got back to your garage, or whatever. with the loot, but c'mon, man!

hopefully the owner of the house is ok.

@Greg...aaahhh..that makes sense. well, they probably should've planned on stashing the herb somewhere on their escape route and come back to get it later. The home owner was not going to report the stolen weed.

Had the owner had a gun all would be fine.

Breaking into a house, getting caught, and beating the owner?? I'll be curious to know the sentences. 30 days? Community service? If they don't get locked up for 5 years, there is a problem.

Knowing the McHenry DA, they will all walk with 30 days jail and probation for 18 months. Seems to be the typical back room deal they make for violent offensers, even with repeat offenderts. McHenry is about as soft on crime as you can get....unless you are a senior citizen who was found jaywalking...then they hammer you.

They wanted to get high???
Did any of them think to get a job so they could purchase what they wanted?
Do any of them have a job? (i guess if they did, they don't now).
Do they have any college education or do they have any type of career aspirations or any motivation to be something they are not?
Or could they have gone for a cocktail to get high --- the socially acceptable way?

Anyone check these 4 outstanding citizen's record at the website for McHenry County Government Center - Circuit Clerk? Their records are an arm long! That grown man, Phil, 26 years old (use of the term, grown man used liberally & facetiously) has a pleas for another crime on Feb. 20th. Not the first time he's been arrested for battery either.

Sara, i hope that whatever punishment he gets, your brother gets hurt enough to where he says "i'm never doing that shit again" and changes his path. He's still really young and has his life in front of him. I don't know you guys but feel sorry for your family.. tough times, but if your bro learns from this, you'll get through it ok.

Sara,
Sorry to hear of your brother's repeated violations. In June of 2011 he was also arrested for criminal trespassing to a residence with a person present, a Class 4 felony, as well as being charged with knowingly damage to property, resisting arrest, escape from a police officer. He's was in jail for 68 days for the same thing 6 months ago, is on 2 years probation. Crazy stupid what they did? Or what they continue to do? I think they are crazy stupid and deserve to be incarcerated. Hopefully no more probation for these bottom-feeders.

Can't change the past? True, but he could have changed his future.
So, please get over people
Why should we? These are 4 scumbags that are repeatedly released by the court on probation and then go out and commit more crimes and even the same crimes.
Sara, I do applaud you for trying to stick up for your brother but you both have to learn life's lessons. Law-abiding people are truly sick of scumbags like your brother and we live in fear of these types walking the streets and those friends, family, etc, who are enabling them.

Useless individuals......just dumb for a qp like you can't even make something substantial enough of of that to runaway or hide. At least do something that's ping to let you live comfortably in hiding for a few years. I have known Phil for a long time he wasn't framed he has prior rape, and battery charges, on top skipping his court date for the other charge now this...whoever said he was framed is a true moron

MOB,
Interesting psuedo-name. Good people? They have all been arrested for mob action prior to this. Were you too busy intimidating someone else to join the rest of your crew in their mob actions that evening? People make mistakes and actually LEARN from them if they have 2 remaining brain cells that are not fried from drugs. Even the lowest species learns from their mistakes. God damn people these days...It's people like your friends. Look up your comrades records. Self-respecting people don't want to get to KNOW these type of people, we don't want them near our homes, "casing out the joint", or near our loved ones. From those that have posted here, some seem to know or "know of" your friends & can make make their own judgments. And the consensus seems to be to stay the hell away from pond-scum such as these. As for you, Mr. MOB, birds of a feather flock together, lie down with dogs, get up with fleas. There is a reason for these sayings. Do yourself a favor, LEARN.

Good people? A mistake is something done that you learn from. Repeat offenders are not 'mistakenly' robbing homes and beating the people inside.....to steal an illegal substance. Robbing and stealing and beating people are NOT mistakes.

I went to school with Phil, he was a punk back then and I guess nothing has changed. I remember back in middle school at Hannah, when Ben stood up to him and rubbed a slice of pizza on his head and face. Phil just sat there and held back tears. When I saw his name in the paper, that memory is how I remember that guy lol

Slick Rick,
Punk & pussie. Parents bailed him out AGAIN!
$8000
Of course, if you look on Mchenry Govenrment website
he & 1 other kid get their charges reduced by making a
deal & INF (informing) on other. They can give it but can't take it.
They can give others beatings, but boy when it comes to them facing
similar in the prison, where they should be, they can't take it so...let's make a deal.
Like others said, McHenry County would release these scum back into society with only a slap on the wrist. What F***ing justice.

No big deal. CL is practically an all white suburb, and if this is about the extent of the crime have to put up with, so be it. BTW, I went to middle and high school with Phil- he was always socially awkward and meek, and kept company with much younger kids, i guess because nobody in our class liked him much. Good to see that hasn't changed.
