The Sage Y Piranhas Team: Swimming for the Grade!

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL – The Sage Piranha Swim Team is going for the grade!

Swimmers are encouraged to achieve their goals not only as a competitive swimmer, but also academically during their swim team season.

To accomplish these goals a program called Grades for Goggles was created. The Sage YMCA rewards students that maintain or improve their academic standing during the swim team season.

Dec 3 – 5, the Piranhas will show their grades at the Grades for Goggles table. Grades must be dated after the start of the Fall Piranha season. They must also be final quarter/trimester/semester grades, not progress reports.

Fall Awards! Everyone who submits their grades will receive an award bag.

However, there is an additional incentive for students to reach for more! Those students whose grades are based on a letter grade, their GPA will be recorded.  The Piranhas with the top 20% of the GPAs will receive an additional award the next week from one of our sponsors.

Spring Awards!  The Piranhas swimmers are encouraged to keep up those good grades all year long. Each swimmer will have a second opportunity to win an award.

The second round of awards will happen towards the end of the season.  If the Piranha swimmer has met or exceeded their first period GPA, they will receive an award.

Students whose academics are not based on a GPA will need to show both their first and second period grade reports.  If they have met or exceeded their first period performance, they will receive an award!

The Sage YMCA Piranhas swim team swims year round. The goal of the team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability.

The coaching staff has tremendous experience at all levels of swimming competitiveness. The methodology is to work as a team, yet encourage the swimmers to achieve their own high personal standards.
