Families can plan a whole weekend of fun centered on Crystal Lake Main Beach. A Family Camp-Out, Family Movie in the Park/Ice Cream Eating Contest, Kids Dog Show and Big Wheel Race are all part of an action- packed weekend planned for June 15-16 at Main Beach. Main Beach is located at 300 Lakeshore Drive in Crystal Lake. Pre-registration is required for all programs (except Movies in the Park) by June 12-no onsite registration accepted.
On Friday-Saturday, June 15 (6 pm)-June 16 (8 am), the Park District is hosting the first of its summer family camp-outs Main Beach. This night is planned for novice campers who want to sleep outside in a campfire setting. Each family will have a five-person tent that they will get to set-up. Families will also enjoy a free paddleboat ride, playing on the playground, sitting around the campfire and eating s’mores, and if you can squeeze it in you can walk over the Movie in the Park when its gets dark. A BBQ dinner will be served as well as a breakfast of donuts and juice. Families may bring lawn, chairs, and should all bring sleeping gear. The program fee is $85 for park district residents and $100 for non-residents.
Bring your appetite for fun! The first Movie in the Park of the summer, The Muppets (Rated PG) will include a Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream Eating Contest and lots of fun including Joe Cicero from Star 105.5. On Saturday morning, June 16 from 9-10 am in the Main Beach parking lot, the park district will be going to the dogs-with a show that lets your dog be the star. Dogs of any age and size are welcome to compete for a variety of honors. Categories include: smallest, largest, best looking, best costume, best trick, best behaved, and, of course, best of show. Pre-registration is required by June 12. Day of registration is not available for this event. The program fee is $11 per dog for park district residents and $16 per dog for non-residents.
Completing the weekend of fun will be the Big Wheel Race for kids ages 3-5 years old, on Saturday, June 16 from 10:45 –11:45 am at Crystal Lake Main Beach. Kids will race their big wheels on a course set up on the blacktop in the Main Beach Parking Lot. Separate heats are set up, so everyone has a chance to win. Entrants must use their own Big Wheels style plastic tricycle, no rubber wheels allowed. Pre-registration is required by June 12. Day of registration is not available for this event. The program fee is $11 per child for park district residents and $16 per child for non-residents.
